To the collaboration between St. John’s Lutheran Community and Senior Resources.

Hats off to Albert Lea senior-based organizations St. John’s Lutheran Community and Senior Resources, which this week announced a collaboration between the two entities.

Starting in June, Senior Resources and its team members are slated to move into St. John’s Luther Place campus along with all of its programs.

In addition to both of the organizations having a focus centered around seniors, it also makes sense for the two organizations to team up. While St. John’s has the extra space, Senior Resources is looking for a new place with potential development coming down the line for its current building.

We hope it will be a successful partnership.

Thank you to the organizers of Albert Lea’s Cinco de Mayo celebration, who for the third year hosted an event filled with food, music and activities.
Cinco de Mayo commemorates the victory of Mexico over the French empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It is celebrated annually to honor Mexican culture and heritage, showcasing traditional music, dance and cuisine.

These types of activities let the city’s diverse populations know that people care about them and their heritage and that others seek to learn more about their culture.

We hope it continues to grow in the future.

To Albert Lea’s service clubs.

We see it time and time again: Local service clubs stepping up to lead programs benefiting the community.

Whether it’s one of the Lions clubs or the Kiwanis or Rotary clubs or organizations such as the Moose Lodge or the Eagle’s Club, we’re grateful for all they do to better various groups — and typically children — in the community.

This week, the Albert Lea Noon Lions Club was a part of donating shade trees to area third graders as part of a collaboration with the city and the Freeborn County Soil and Water Conservation District. In addition to receiving trees, the students learned about the importance of the preservation of the area’s natural resources and planting new trees.

Thanks to these organizations for all they do to help area youth and the community. Our community is a better place because of you.
