The Albert Lea High School Athletic Hall of Fame committee announced that Orrie Jirele, Clay Lyon, Doyle Freemyer, Jon Schmitz, Tricia (Reichl) Cyr, Pam (Stoltz) Adams and Mollee (Ludtke) Tscholl were being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The Albert Lea Tigers baseball team ended a 10-game losing streak with a 17-0 win over NRHEG at Hayek Field to finish their regular season. Taylor Heavner picked up the win for the Tigers. The Tigers were set to host Waseca in the opening round of the Section 2AA South tournament.
Albert Lea’s Taylor Herfindahl was selected to the Big Nine All-Conference tennis team.
The Albert Lea girls’ golf team took fourth place at the Big Nine Conference meet held at the Owatonna Country Club. Chelsey Battle led the Tigers by shooting an 87.

20 years
The Albert Lea boys’ golf team placed third in a Big Nine triangular in Owatonna. Ross Stadheim and Beau Larson each shot an 83 to lead the Tigers.
The Albert Lea U-12 girls’ soccer team defeated Rochester #1 3-2. Morgan Stadheim, Kellsie Dieser and Sophie Miller scored goals in the win.
The United South Central/Alden-Conger girls’ track and field team placed fourth at the Minnesota True Team State Meet in Blaine. Becca Bryson won the triple jump and took second in the long jump for the Rebels. Amy Christensen also took first place in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles.
Kyle Lohse picked up his second win of the season as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Kansas City Royals 8-3 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. Lew Ford and Alex Prieto homered for the Twins.

50 years
Minnesota Vikings executive vice-president and general manager Jim Finks announced his resignation from the team.
The Albert Lea girls’ track team, under coach Lois Fagerquist, took third place in the Big Nine Conference track meet held in Austin. The Tigerettes’ lone first-place finish came in the half-mile run where Nancy Shepard crossed the finish line with a time of 2.36.1.
Former Albert Lea resident Al Joosten was defeated in the first round of the World Wristwrestling Championship held in Las Vegas.
The Albert Lea golf team took third place in the Big Nine Conference meet held at the Austin Country Club. Mark Knutson, Jeff Elseth and Paul Peterson each shot a 79 to lead the Tigers.
Junior Roger Swanson was the lone Albert Lea Tigers tennis player to get a victory as he defeated his Rochester John Marshall opponent in straight sets at the Big Nine Conference tennis meet held in Rochester.
A triple by Ross Dahl and a single by Tom Anderson were the only two hits as the Albert Lea Tigers b-squad baseball team was shut out 1-0 by Rochester John Marshall.
Freshman Curt Langlie of Ellendale picked up his fifth win of the season as he pitched two-hit ball over five innings to lead Golden Valley Lutheran College to a 9-1 win over Metropolitan State.
A full field of 116 golfers was expected to participate in the third annual Early Bird golf tournament that was being played at the Arrowhead Golf and Country Club in Emmons.
Former Albert Lea High School baseball standout Jeff Lester had a 5-1 record with a 1.70 ERA for Three Rivers College Community College in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
