On Saturday, youth ages 8 to 17 can take to the skies in a general aviation airplane. Members of EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Vintage Chapter #13 will host a Young Eagles Flight Rally from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Albert Lea Municipal Airport.

Volunteer pilots will give free airplane rides to youth ages 8 to 17. A parent or legal guardian must be present to sign the permission form.

Launched in 1992, the Young Eagles program has dedicated 30 years to giving youth ages 8 to 17 their first free ride in an airplane. It’s the only program of its kind, with the sole mission to introduce and inspire kids in the world of aviation. Today, over 2.3 million young people have enjoyed free introductory flights through the Young Eagles program.

The pilots participating in the Young Eagles program are local members of EAA who are volunteering their time and aircraft to make your youth’s flight possible. Each pilot is certificated by the FAA and all aircraft are licensed by the government.

Following the flight each youth will receive a certificate and logbook making them an official Young Eagle. In addition each Young Eagle is eligible for an EAA student membership.

Parents can register their children for the Albert Lea Young Eagles Rally at the website www.yeday.org or at www.youngeaglesday.org?10220.
