Summer in Albert Lea promises fun adventures for all ages at the Albert Lea Public Library, neighborhood parks and Aquatic Center. For details on the activities below, see the Summer Fun Guide online at https://cityofalbertlea.org/recreation, available in English and Spanish.

The library’s reading program, “Your summer adventure begins at your library!” began Sunday and runs through Aug. 18. The program encourages all ages to read and win prizes. The library will host several events this summer, including favorites like visits from the Zoo Man, Greg the Great Magician and Jim Jayes. Adults can enjoy a stone carving workshop, a local author festival and drop-in crafts.

Summer adventures at neighborhood parks for students in grades K-5 started Monday. All programs are provided at no charge with supervision by Albert Lea Recreation staff. No registration is required and students may drop in between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday at:

• Academy Park, 910 Frank Hall Drive
• Hawthorne Park, 915 Garfield Ave.
• Lakeview Park, 102 Willamor Road

Community Education will take their “terrific traveling trailers” to the parks above and the additional parks below on a rotating schedule:

• Troy-Hammer Park, 603 Troy Road
• Valley Park, 611 Sheridan St.
• Hayek Park, 1215 W. Clark St.
• Sibley Park, 701 Maplehill Road
• Sondegaard Park, 806 17th St.

There is no fee for Community Ed activities, but registration is required by calling 507-379-5318 or going to alschools.ce.eleyo.com.

The Albert Lea Aquatic Center, 321 James Ave., opened Monday. Daily admission is $4/daytime and $2/nighttime per swimmer age 3 years and older. Season passes are $120 plus tax for a family of four with $20 per additional family member; $65 plus tax for individuals; and $35 plus tax for caretakers.

Look for specials throughout the season. Every Monday is Grandparents Day with free admission for grandparents with one paid swimmer. Admission is $2 on Tuesday with no charge for children age 2 and younger. Admission will be free for fathers on Sunday, June 16; mothers on Sunday, July 14; and veterans on Sunday, July 21.

The splash pad at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Fountain Street is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather permitting. The skate park at the City Beach, 300 Johnson St., is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Both amenities are provided free of charge.

Also free is the Thursdays on Fountain concert series at Fountain Lake Park, 100 Fountain St., through August. Different musical groups perform every Thursday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
