After years of law school and gaining experience in family courts, Benjamin J. Enger, Esq. recently opened his own law firm in Albert Lea: Enger Law, PLLC.
Enger grew up in Albert Lea. His father, John Enger, was a podiatrist in town. After graduating from high school, Enger attended University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities and graduated with a political science degree. He then attended Mitchell Hamline School of Law, graduating in 2020 with a Juris Doctorate.
Following school, Enger worked as a clerk for the judicial officer referee in Hutchinson. While at this job he learned the process of working in the Hennepin County family court.
“Then I practiced at a few family law specific law firms to gain the experience I needed to open my own firm,” Enger said.
He always wanted to move back to Albert Lea and practice law in town.
“My whole family lives down here and it was always one of my goals to provide services in the community I grew up in,” Enger said. “I wanted to bring my experience from working in Hennepin County down to Freeborn County.”
Currently, Enger specializes in family law. He said his favorite part of his job is “seeing the positive changes in my client’s emotional health as they move into a new chapter of their life.”
One challenge that comes with working in family law is “dealing with opposing counsels who don’t listen to what their clients’ goals are, which leads to unnecessary litigation and higher costs,” Enger said.
In his free time, Enger enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his family.
