The Albert Lea Tribune dating back to 1897 is now officially digitized on Newspapers.com.
The Tribune’s parent company, Boone News Media, recently partnered with Newspapers.com on the effort, and thanks to the Freeborn County Historical Museum, who provided the microfilm to the website, people can now visit the site and search for all the details from events of yesteryear.
The site is searchable and allows people to look for an article by both location, date and keyword.
Search for everything from obituaries, marriage announcements, birth announcements and lifestyle stories to crime, sports and more from the Tribune’s archives. See what the papers looked like from the past and how the industry has evolved over time.
The tool will be a good resource for everyone from journalists to researchers to people working on their family genealogy and others who just want to have some fun looking up the community in the past.
Archives are available for the Tribune in full through 2008 with some months available in 2010 and 2011. We plan to work to fill in the gaps and beyond that in the future.
Newspapers.com, which is an Ancestry company, has the largest digital newspaper archive with over 27,000 newspapers.
In fact, when the historical museum provided the company with the Tribune’s microfilm, it also gave microfilm for the other newspapers that have been in Freeborn County in the past.
It has never been more convenient to search a newspaper archive than it is today.
