A 22-year-old Albert Lea woman was charged in Freeborn County District Court on Friday with one count of methamphetamine possession and four counts of meth sales related to alleged sales to a drug task force informant in January and March.

The possession charge came as a result of a traffic stop Wednesday right off of Interstate 35 near the intersection of U.S. Highway 65 and Blake Avenue.

According to court records, police arrested Victoria Ann Rivera Lopez Wednesday at about 3:30 p.m. after she reportedly drove past two police in an unmarked tan Chevy Impala going 90 mph on Interstate 35 between Clarks Grove and Albert Lea.

The officers caught up to Lopez and then followed her into the Blake Avenue Albert Lea exit where they pulled her over.

According to court records, Lopez “appeared to be very nervous and was shaking.”

During a search of her car, officers found baggies with a white powder that tested positive as methamphetamine and another bag that contained small crystal-like material.

Lopez’s sales charges come from a series of interaction with an informant earlier in the year:

Third-degree meth sales: Court documents state Lopez faces this charge after she allegedly sold 1.5 grams of crystal meth to an informant for $300 on Jan. 14. This took place on the corner of South East Marshall and Fenton.

Third-degree meth sales: Her second third-degree meth sales charge stems from an alleged sale on March 1 of about 0.9 grams of crystal meth to an informant at the Comfort Inn Hotel in Albert Lea for $150.

Second-degree meth sales: Court documents state Lopez allegedly sold 3.4 grams of crystal meth to an informant at the same hotel on March 4 for $325.

Second-degree meth sales: This charge stems from an alleged sale of 3.9 grams of crystal meth to an informant on the corner of South East Marshall and Fenton.

Because Lopez has been convicted of a previous controlled substance crime — the conviction came in May of 2009 for an offense from 2007 — she faces stiffer penalties if convicted of these crimes.

The count of meth possession carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine, and a mandatory minimum sentence of six months in prison.

The third-degree sales charge carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. It has a mandatory minimum sentence of two years.

The second-degree sales charge carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and a $500,000 fine. It has a mandatory minimum sentence of three years.

Lopez appeared on the charges Friday.

Bail was set at $50,000 for each second-degree charge, $30,000 for each third-degree charge and $10,000 for the possession charge.

She will next appear in court May 24.
