Three area girls’ basketball players named all-state

Three area girls’ basketball players were recently selected to the Minnesota Associated Press all-state team.

Albert Lea senior Abbey Arends, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva junior Alyssa Kerkhoff and United South Central junior Val Sahr all received honorable mention honors.

Arends led the Tigers with 16.5 points per game and shot 38 percent from the field. Arends also led the team in assists and averaged 6.6 rebounds per game.

Kerkhoff averaged 16.7 points per game and led the Panthers in steals, free throw percentage and assists.

Sahr averaged a double-double for the second consecutive season for the Rebels. Sahr scored 12.1 points per game and pulled down 10 rebounds per game.
