50 years ago – 1962

• The Albert Lea High School baseball team defeated Northfield 5-3. Mike Wittkamper of the Tigers doubled with the bases loaded in the last inning with two outs for the win. Denny Tostenson was the winning pitcher.

• Bob Lindeman had three hits, and Lowell Doppelhammer was the winning pitcher for the Alden High School baseball team in their 5-4 victory over Kiester.

• The ALHS boys golf team shut out Mankato 7-0. Singles winners for the Tigers were Gene Hanson, Dave Boyum, Bob Jensen, Curt Pickavance and John Jensen. Doubles team winners were Boyum and Pickavance and the team of Ted Unseth and Bruce Glesne.

• Pitcher Camilo Pascual hit a home run and raised his season record to 4-1 for the Minnesota Twins in their 8-3 win over Baltimore.

 

25 years ago – 1987

• The Albert Lea High School boys’ golf team defeated Faribault 310-338. Scoring for the Tigers were co-medalists Brian Knudsen and Buck Rasmussen with 76, Chad Adams 78, Mark Sorenson 80 and Paul Wick 83.

• The Alden-Conger girls’ softball team improved to 4-0 in the Border Conference with a 11-4 win over Lyle. Vickie Thomas had four hits and three RBIs, and Tanna Dokken was the winning pitcher for A-C.

• Randy Severtson had four hits with one home run, Brian Wolfe hit two home runs and had five RBIs, and Paul Tordoff and Jeff Vierkant each had three hits for Glenville High School in their 15-8 baseball victory over Blooming Prairie.

 

10 years ago – 2002

• Alice Petersen, a 42-year member of the Albert Lea Women’s Bowling Association, was inducted into the Minnesota Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

• The Glenville-Emmons baseball team swept a double header from Southland 1-0 and 4-3 and raised their season record to 10-2. Rich Mathis threw a two hitter in the first game for the Wolverines and improved to 4-1 for the season. Mitch Meier remained undefeated at 5-0 in the second game.

• United South Central and St. James tied at 224-224 in girls’ golf. Ashley Tukua at No. 5 scored 66 to St. James’ No. 5 who shot a 69 to give the victory to USC.
