50 years ago – 1960

Mel Northway scored 24 points to lead Minneapolis Patrick Henry to a 52-50 win over Wells in the opening basketball game for both teams. Dan Roberts scored 16 points and Ron Zeilie 14 for Wells.

Minneapolis Patrick Henry won their second two point victory, a 50-48 win over Albert Lea High School. Northway led Henry with 32 points. The Tigers were led by Paul Wilke with 19 points and Clair Flaten with 10.

Lowell Brady, a 1956 graduate of ALHS, was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award at Mankato State College as their quarterback.

ALHS junior Jeff Brooke won the heavyweight crown at the Mankato State Thanksgiving Invitational Wrestling Tournament.

25 years ago – 1985

In the Big Nine Conference opening basketball game Albert Lea defeated Owatonna 71-52. Mike Peterson scored 30 points and had 13 rebounds for the Tigers.

The ALHS boys hockey shut out Faribault 5-0. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Mike Nelson with two, Klas Olssen, Brian Knudsen and Steve Nelson.

Jeff Kasper and Tony Phillips each scored 11 points for Ellendale-Geneva in their 39-34 won over Freeborn. Freeborn was led by Chris McKean and Ken Bartness with 10 points each.

The Minnesota Gophers improved their season basketball record to 4-1 with a 66-57 victory over South Dakota. John Shasky scored 19 points and Marc Wilson 14 for the Gophers.

10 years ago – 2000

Returning letter winners for the ALHS boys hockey team included Brandon Drescher, Tristan Sather, Peter Hillman, Dusty Wangen, Matt Bracker, Scott Madrigal, Jamie Erickson, Travis Miller, Matt Tubbs and Josh Tubbs.

Returning letter winners for the Glenville-Emmons basketball team were seniors Seth Stadheim, Andrew Greibrok, Bryan Lair, Adam Bremer and Dustin Peterson and juniors Nick Flatness, Tom Flatness and Paul Kleven.

The ALHS girls hockey team evened their season record at 2-2 with a 7-1 win over Winona. Seventh grader Laura Hillman scored 4 goals for Albert Lea.
