Here are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County.  If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Big Island Rendezvous: Wow — the Rendezvous will have 550+ students this October; that will be more than 3,000 students learning first hand about life in our  early 1800s. Tour guides are needed to ensure that classes get to their appointed area on schedule. Come to Senior Resources to sign up as a guide and get your shuttle pass. You are needed, Oct. 4 and 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., to report for instructions at 8 a.m. the day you can be a guide. Help one day or two and get free admission to the weekend. As organizer Perry Vining says, “We never have enough guides for School Days.”

Front desk phone answering: The SEMCAC office in Albert Lea needs two to three people to answer telephones from 1 to 4:30 p.m. for one or two days a week. You can get additional details from Linda Lares at 373-1329.

Volunteer driver: You can help seniors maintain their independence when they are no longer able to drive to their appointments. Ride Services of Freeborn County needs additional drivers, one or more days a week. Drivers are reimbursed for mileage and receive training; call Marilynn Borland at Senior Resources, 377-7433, for additional information and to volunteer.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging, and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
