thumbupTo local churches.

It is amazing how much good the local churches do for the community, whether it is Shinefest’s effort to help out locally or churches working together to feed hungry people overseas or even good Christians giving out coats in the winter to kids in need. This endless sources of selflessness becomes forgotten in all the media coverage over church-related issues such as same-sex marriage, stem-cell research, what the new pope is doing and so forth. On this day, Palm Sunday, Christians celebrate goodness and triumph. In step, we salute them for all the good they do. Thank you.

thumbdownTo crashes on the freeways.

There were far too many crashes, spinouts and rollovers on the freeways this past week, especially on Monday during the blizzard. We never fail to be stunned by the sheer number of people willing to travel in inclement conditions and particularly be the ones willing to go fast on icy surfaces. Don’t they realize that, when they crash, all they do is put greater burden on first responders?

thumbupTo the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

It has been a rollercoaster ride for anyone who follows the University of Minnesota’s men’s basketball team. During this season, they managed to defeat No. 1-ranked Indiana yet lose to doormats like Northwestern and Nebraska. Somehow, the Gophers got into the NCAA tournament, then they won against the UCLA Bruins on Friday. Whether you like the Gophers or love them, they sure have been fun to follow.
