ST. PAUL — The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and its musicians have reached a tentative deal that would end a six-month lockout.

Musicians and SPCO management announced the proposed contract agreement Tuesday night. The proposal will be taken to the musicians union for a vote, and concerts will return while the two sides work out details.

Musician negotiator Carole Mason Smith said her committee will recommend musicians accept the proposal.

If approved, the musicians’ annual pay will be cut by $15,000, and the orchestra will be reduced by six players to 24.

However, the musicians will have greater artistic control over the SPCO’s performances and repertoire.

SPCO management locked out the musicians on Oct. 21.

Meanwhile, musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra remain locked out in their contract dispute.
