ST. PAUL — Gov. Mark Dayton and top lawmakers are making another attempt to find agreement on a storm-relief special session.

If an agenda is completed today, the quick session would be Sept. 9.

The Democratic and Republican leaders said delivering assistance to 18 affected counties is on the priority. But they differ on what else should be part of the mix.

Democrats, including Dayton, said they will seek to exempt farm machinery repairs from a new business equipment sales tax. That comes with a $28 million cost.

Republicans hope to eliminate other newly enacted taxes. Dayton said he’s willing to do that only if adequate and acceptable replacement money is found.
