BROWNSDALE — The City Council of this Mower County community voted unanimously Monday night to fire Police Chief Jason Mindrup.

Mindrup, 42, of Waltham, was charged with criminal sexual conduct last week but has yet to enter a plea. A woman accused Mindrup of sexually assaulting her after leaving a Waltham bar on Aug. 31, according to the complaint filed in Mower County District Court. However, Mindrup denied those accusations. Court files say he told investigators the woman asked to go to his house, but he instead drove the woman back to the bar where she had left her phone and purse.

Mindrup had been on administrative leave since early September while the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigated. Temporary Brownsdale officer Tom Brogan has been working nearly full time in Mindrup’s absence, according to Mayor David Pike.

Council-goers wanted to find out more during Monday night’s meeting. The council listened to a few comments but could not reply. Pike, however, assured the public that the council consulted an attorney regarding the termination.
