The Albert Lea girls’ hockey team hung on to claim its first win of the season Thursday by beating Mankato West 3-2 on the road.

The Tigers lit up the scoreboard first with a goal by Hannah Savelkoul on an assist by Anna Anderson and Sydney Overgaard in the first period. After a scoreless second period, Savelkoul found the net again on a pass from Mackenzie Waldemar 1 minute, 14 seconds into the third period.

Albert Lea extended its lead to 3-0 when Anna Anderson passed the puck to Anna Anglin who found the net.

Mankato West rallied with two late goals by Julia Snelson, but the Tigers prevailed.

Earlier this session, Albert Lea lost 6-0 at Alexandria, 5-1 at Rogers and 4-3 at home to Northfield.

Next, the Tigers (1-3 overall, 1-0 Big Nine) host Rochester Century at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
