Weekend Planner: Live Nativity can be found in town

The Arc of Freeborn County will have its annual Nativity pageant at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

There is no charge to watch. It is to be at First Baptist Church in Albert Lea.

Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall following the program. Arc members are asked to bring Christmas treats to share.

The Arc provides advocacy and support to people who have developmental disabilities and their family. The program is a partner agency of the United Way.

 

Friday

• “A Dickens Christmas Carol” will be presented at the Lighthouse Event Center. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, students are $7.

• A Texas Hold ‘Em tournament is slated for the Albert Lea Eagles Club. Event starts at 7 p.m. with entertainment by Tom Minehart.

• There will be a live Nativity at New Life Christian Church from 7 to 9 p.m. There is no charge to attend.

• Lakeview Elementary School will hold its winter concert for kindergarten through third grade at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the school’s gym.

 

Saturday

• Alden’s Christmas Tour of Homes will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for Morin Lake Days. Five homes will be toured. Cost is a $10 donation. There will be a soup luncheon at the Alden City Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information or tickets, call Jill Mathason at 402-0172.

• The 18th annual Model Railroad Show will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Northbridge Mall.

• There will be a live Nativity at New Life Christian Church from 7 to 9 p.m. There is no charge to attend.

• The farmers market will run from 9 a.m. to noon at Northbridge Mall by the food court.

 

Sunday

• The choirs of Riverland Community College, under the direction of Scott Blankenbaker, are collaborating with the Southeastern Minnesota Chamber Orchestra to present a Christmas concert at Albert Lea High School at 7 p.m. They will be joined by members of the Albert Lea Community Choir on several pieces. Tickets are available at Marshall Street Music and from members of the orchestra, as well as at the door the evening of the concert. Advance sale prices are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors, with students through high school age admitted free. At the door, tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors.

• The first of three Advent Recitals at Salem Lutheran Church will take place at 3 p.m. The guest organist will be Ryan Hulshizer from Northwood. The recital is scheduled to run for 30 minutes and will be followed by a short service.

• There will be a kids christmas party at the Albert Lea Eagles club from noon to 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be served, the Reptile and Amphibian Discovery Zoo will be there as well as Santa Claus.

• There will be a candy cane hunt at the Fairline Building from 1 to 2 p.m. There will be hot cocoa and treats. Cost is $1 per child.
