Albert Lea police seized 13 dogs, a chinchilla and two laptops from a house at 104 S. First Ave. Wednesday morning after conducting a search warrant. A chinchilla is a species of rodent native to South America.

The owners of the house, Melissa and Cory Carroll, had reportedly been running an animal rescue, said police Lt. J.D. Carlson.

He said police notified the Carrolls more than a week ago that there were too many animals in the house. City residents are allowed to have two dogs and two cats. Animals must be up-to-date on shots and be licensed.

Carlson said the Carrolls have five days to find homes for the animals.
