MINNEAPOLIS— A Minneapolis man is accused of driving drunk when he struck and killed a bicyclist on Franklin Avenue in south Minneapolis on Monday.
Forty-nine-year-old John Iverson was jailed Friday on a charge of criminal vehicular homicide.
Authorities say Iverson had a blood-alcohol level of 0.27 percent, which is more than three times Minnesota’s legal limit of 0.08 percent for driving.
Iverson is accused of running down Marcus Nalls, a 26-year-old chef and bicycle commuter. Nalls had lights on the front and back of his bike and was also wearing a helmet.
Iverson is expected to appear in court Monday. Prosecutors plan to seek bail of $150,000.
Bicyclists and friend of Nalls plan to hold a memorial ride Saturday afternoon.
