MINNEAPOLIS — Former Minnesota State University, Mankato, football coach Todd Hoffner is about to clear up the uncertainty over whether he will return to his old job.

The school fired Hoffner last May without publicly disclosing the reasons. The dismissal came after Hoffner had been accused, and then cleared, of having pornographic images of his own children on his work-issue cellphone.

An arbitrator last week ruled that Hoffner was unfairly fired, and ordered the school to reinstate him with back pay.

But going back isn’t that simple. Hoffner was hired in January as head coach at Minot State University in North Dakota. He plans a news conference this afternoon at a law firm in Minneapolis to announce his intentions.
