Grapevine Twist

The Grapevine Twist Square Dance Club had a dance July 12 at the Senior Center at Skyline Mall Plaza. Les LaLone was the caller and called to over three squares. Salads were served after the dance. Servers for the evening were Ron and Betty Stoick. The next dance was July 26. Gary Smith was the caller. A potluck was served after the dance. The club danced on their float for the Lake Mills Jubilee Days parade at 10:30 a.m. July 12.

 

Ascension Lutheran Church of ELCA

The Ascension Lutheran Church of ELCA had their regular monthly meeting at 9:15 a.m. July 13.

Doris Guenther, co-president, called the business meeting to order.

Secretary’s report was given by Lorraine Schaper and placed on file. Cheryl Venem gave the treasurer’s report.

Received a notice by mail that Yvonne Cory of Wells will present a program during Senior Citizens Day at the Freeborn County Fair Wednesday.

“Joys and Tears in the Apron Strings” will be presented at 1 and 3:30 p.m. at the arts building.

The nominating committee of Jan Jerdee, Gayle Olson and Caroline Sorenson with Caroline Sorenson reported they are working and praying to fill positions for one co-president, a treasurer and a secretary. The slate for new officers will be presented at the Sept. 9 meeting at 6 p.m., being a combined Bible study led by the Rev. Boorsma with the WELCA meeting to follow. The Marian Circle will serve as hostess.

Guest night is set for 6 p.m. Aug. 12 with a salad supper followed by a program provided by the Saint Andrew Sisters from Austin.

Jane Pearson gave to a member of each circle present a sheet for items needed for the guest night salad supper. Items should be in by 5 p.m. that day. Bring salad in a serving bowl.

There was a suggestion to have Kristen Sandagar to provide harp selections in the Fellowship Hall before and during the salad supper.

Items for the Good Earth Quilt Auction will be accepted at Good Earth up to Sept. 1. There is a detailed information sheet which Denise Sandagar has that must be filled out and attached to describe the item donated.

Aug. 3: Mary Circle to serve St. John’s Sunday coffee

Looking ahead to Nov. 1 and the Time and Talent Bazaar. A motion was made and carried to change coffee time at 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and lunch time at 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Doris Guenthner closed the meeting with prayer.
