MINNEAPOLIS — Estimates from two Washington, D.C., nonprofit organizations said there are more than 90,000 illegal immigrants living in Minnesota.

The Pew Research Center’s study said illegal immigrants make up 1.8 percent of Minnesota’s population and 2.5 percent of its workforce. While Pew estimates the illegal immigrant count at 95,000, the Migration Policy Institute puts the number at 91,000.

Minnesota state demographer Susan Brower said the reports show the number of new undocumented arrivals has leveled off after rapid increases in the 1990s and early 2000s.

The Pew study said illegal immigration has been largely stable nationwide since 2009. It had declined during the recession after peaking in 2007 at about 12 million people.
