NORTHWOOD — The 12 days of Christmas are coming.

The Northwood Chamber of Commerce is planning a 12 Days of Christmas event starting Monday and running through Dec. 12.

Community members can visit Northwood Chamber of Commerce member businesses to get cards stamped while they’re shopping. On Dec. 13 the chamber will draw 12 stamped cards and then give $100 in Northwood Dollars to the winners.

This is the first year the chamber will be having the 12 Days of Christmas, and chamber President Teresa George said that if all goes well the event will likely be a recurring one.

“It’ll be a good way of bringing people to town,” said George. “I think it’ll be a good thing.”

George said Connie Hickle, owner of Flower Zone by Connie, came up with the idea after reading about something similar in a magazine. Hickle then went to active chamber members to see who would be interested in participating.

Participating businesses are Flower Zone by Connie, Ag Power, Northwood Anchor, Northwood True Value, Shade Tree Liquors, Signatures Supper Club, Northwood Theatre, Village Florist, Ver Helst Drug Center, Worth Brewing Company, Car Quest Auto Parts, Fallgatter’s Market and Top of Iowa Boutique.

Cards can be picked up and returned at Flower Zone by Connie by 5 p.m. Dec. 12 to be included in the Dec. 13 drawing.

There will also be a Christmas parade Dec. 6. The parade will run from the Worth County Fairgrounds to the downtown Northwood area starting around 6 p.m. Those interested in participating in the parade can meet at the fairgrounds by 5:30 p.m.

George said there will be a contest to guess how many lights are on the decorated tree at Dale and Karen Ahart’s home near the corner of First Avenue North and 14th Street North. The one who guesses closest to the number of lights, without going over, will win $100 in Northwood Dollars. Guesses need to also be turned in by 5 p.m. Dec. 13.
