Stultz promoted to managing editor

The Albert Lea Tribune has promoted Assistant Editor Sarah Stultz to the position of managing editor, effective Wednesday.

Stultz, 30, has worked at the Tribune since September 2006, and covered city, county, crime and political news in addition to her role as assistant editor. She replaces former Managing Editor Tim Engstrom, who was promoted last week to publisher of the Fergus Falls Daily Journal.

“I look forward to reaching out to the community further in this position and leading the staff at the Tribune to cover issues of local importance,” Stultz said.

The Tribune staff is happy to welcome Stultz to the position, including Publisher Crystal Miller.

“Sarah is the best person for this job,” Miller said. “She will take care good care of the newsroom staff, the company and most importantly the community of Albert Lea. We all look up to her and are excited for this new chapter in Tribune history.”

Stultz, who grew up in Roanoke, Virginia, graduated from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in print journalism.

Before moving to Albert Lea to start at the Tribune, she had experience at multiple newspapers, including the Salem-Times Register, a weekly in Salem, Virginia; the Provo Daily Herald, a daily in Provo; and the Deseret Morning News, a daily in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was the campus editor at Brigham Young University’s student newspaper The Daily Universe for a semester.

Outside of work, Stultz is on the advisory board of the Albert Lea Salvation Army, previously serving as chairwoman for one year. She also has served in numerous leadership capacities at her church.

She and her husband, Jason, have two children, Sophie, 6 and Landon, 3. She enjoys gardening and home decorating.
