Albert Lea Community Theatre will open its 51st season with “Calendar Girls,” written by Tim Firth, from Oct. 8 to Oct. 17. This delightful comedy is an uplifting, feel-good story of friendship, ingenuity and triumph. When Annie’s husband, John, dies of leukemia, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow Women’s Institute members to pose “nude” with them for an alternative calendar. This play is based on an inspiring true story from England and adapted from the Golden Globe-nominated motion picture. Some of the proceeds from this play will be donated to the Cancer Center at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.

“Don’t Hug Me, I’m Pregnant,” written by Phil Olson with music by Paul Olson, will run Feb. 11 through Feb. 20, 2016. A member of the smash-hit musical comedy series “Don’t Hug Me,” this show takes place in Bunyan Bay in a little bar called “The Bunyan” owned by Clara and Gunner Johnson. Clara is eight-and-a-half months pregnant with their first child when a freak snow storm occurs as she goes into labor, and Gunner realizes he’s going to have to deliver the baby in the bar.

“The Kitchen Witches,” written by Caroline Smith, will be performed May 5 to May 14, 2016. This comedy features main characters Isobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle, two middle-aged cable-access cooking show hosts who have hated each other for 30 years. When circumstances put them together on a TV show called “The Kitchen Witches,” the insults in this hilarious comedy are flung harder than the food.

For its final production of the 51st season, ACT will present “The Wizard of Oz,” written by L. Frank Baum with music and lyrics by Harold Allen and E.Y. Harburg, July 14 through July 23, 2016. The classical musical takes you on a journey from Kansas to the Land of Oz. The audience will join Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion as they follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard. Based on the 1939 motion picture, you’ll enjoy the story and the songs you’re familiar with, such as “Over the Rainbow,” “If I Only Had a Brain” and “The Merry Old Land of Oz.”
