The Tribune hosts an annual summer picnic for employees and this year had a cruise on Albert Lea Lake. The crew on the boat welcomed us with open arms.

Our hostess aboard the 60-foot pontoon-style boat was Jean Eaton, who gave us a wonderful narrative while on the cruise, which included the history of Albert Lea Lake and the surrounding area. We learned that Albert Lea Lake is one of the largest natural lakes south of Lake Minnetonka and north of the Gulf of Mexico.

We saw wildlife, including a variety of birds that would make Al Batt proud, and Captain Bruce let the children who came have a chance at steering the boat.

Even the adults enjoyed the children’s tradition of making semi trucks honk as we passed under the Interstate 35 bridge.

We encourage residents who have not seen Albert Lea Lake from the water to consider trying out the Pelican Breeze. The boat leaves from the Frank Hall Park boat landing and has historically narrated tours, specialty events or private outings any day of the week. Full catering services and entertainment are also available upon request.

We had a beautiful night with a great sunset over the city, and we recommend it to anyone looking for a fun evening.
