To the community support for Homecoming week.thumb.up

It has been a lot of fun to see the community rally together for our youth this week during Homecoming week. Whether it has been decorating windows at businesses, attending the Homecoming parade or football game, it shows our students the community cares. Way to go!

To the Albert Lea High School Homecoming king and queen.thumb.up

Matthew Tate was crowned Homecoming king and Cali Adams was crowned queen on Friday in the high school gym.

Congratulations to Tate and Adams for the recognition and for the eight others also in the royalty: Jakob Kilby, Schafer Overgaard, Foster Otten, Jay Skaar, Katie Rasmussen, Karina Stripe, Ahnika Jensen and Francesca Eckstrom.

To Albert Lea High School student Lindsey Horejsi.thumb.up

Horejsi this week made a verbal commitment to join the University of Minnesota’s swimming program. A state record holder, national champion and Olympic Trials swimming qualifier, Horejsi will graduate at the end of this school year.

She has been listed as one of the top recruits in the entire nation, and we are proud to say she is from Albert Lea.

We wish you the best of luck!

To the proposed decrease in the Albert Lea Area Schools tax levy.thumb.up

The Albert Lea school board this week approved a preliminary 2.25 percent decrease in the district’s tax levy.

The district said it is able to do so because of efficiencies and a new long-term facilities program that the Legislature approved in the spring. The program provides the district with more state aid in lieu of local taxes for facility improvements.

The decrease — the second year in a row — will be welcomed by taxpayers.

The board will certify the final level in December.
