It was heartbreaking to hear news of another mass shooting this week, this time at a community college in Roseburg, Oregon.

At least nine people were killed and seven others were wounded Thursday in what was the worst mass shooting in recent Oregon history.

The killer, identified as Chris Harper Mercer, died after a shootout with police.

We join with thousands of others across the country in offering our condolences to the Roseburg community today and in the coming weeks.

Albert Lea is lucky to have live transmissions of the New York Metropolitan Opera to Albert Lea at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.

Another season kicked off Saturday with “II Trovatore” by Giuseppe Verdi. Tickets for all shows are $20 for adults and $12 for students.

The Albert Lea girls’ swimming team is a force to be reckoned with. The Tigers this week set two pool records, beating Rochester Century 92-88.

The first record was set by the 200-yard medley relay team with a time of 1:50.78. That team consisted of Bailey Sandon, Lindsey Horejsi, Ahnika Jensen and Anna Andersen.

The second record was set by Horejsi in the 50 freestyle in 23.86 seconds.

The Tigers have their final home meet of the season at 6 p.m. Thursday against Mankato East. Get out and show them your support.
