As I sat down to write my column, I can’t help but think about the many services the Freeborn County Historical Museum offers the communities of Freeborn County. One of the museum’s biggest assets is the library. Linda, our librarian, has assisted many families as well as individuals with research. This research includes family history, community history and even history on the home they may live in.

My family has been a benefactor of the information available at the library. With the assistance of Linda and the resources in the library, my husband’s grandmother’s family has created a book that includes family history and stories that future generations will have forever. My favorite parts of the book are updates and pictures of not just our immediate family, but that of his extended family. The Levisen family has a rich history in Albert Lea and surrounding area and now there is documentation that can be shared with my children’s children and beyond. With the hard work of family members and resources from the library we have helped carry out the mission of the museum by preserving the history for generations to come.

As I enter my sixth month at the museum, I continue to learn about all we have to offer. The museum is such an amazing resource to our county and its citizens. I invite all of you to see what is available at the museum. We are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. With a membership, you have access to the library, museum, children’s lab activities and the village. We love to share our beautiful building with all of you. Feel free to contact me at 507-373- 8003, or stop in during operating hours. I enjoy visitors.
