James Jorgenson, 1942-2017

James Craig Jorgenson, 74, of Owatonna died Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Owatonna Hospital.

He was born Sept. 11, 1942, in Albert Lea, the son of Melroy and Ruth (Amundson) Jorgenson. Jim graduated from Albert Lea High School with the class of 1961. He entered into service with the U.S. Navy in 1961 until he was honorably discharged in 1965. Soon after, he married Kathy Hultman on Feb. 3, 1968, in Albert Lea. Together they started a family and eventually settled in Minnesota, calling Owatonna their home. Jim worked for many years as a computer programmer at Josten’s in Princeton, Illinois; and Owatonna. He then moved onto work for Amhoist, JC Office Products, Polk Directory and Sugar Loaf.

Jim loved to golf and was a big fan of Minnesota sports teams, including the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, Wild and Timberwolves. He loved to spend his time reading, outdoors camping, fishing and with his grandchildren. Jim was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Jorgenson, of Owatonna; sons Jim (Bobbi) Jorgenson of Rochester and Chad Jorgenson of Owatonna; grandchildren Samantha and Alyssa Jorgenson; brother, Dave (Luanne) Jorgenson, of Rochester; sister, Karen (Bob) Lindesmith, of Robbinsdale; brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Michaelson Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Todd Buegler will officiate. Interment will be in Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna.
