1. Sixth annual Daybreakers Kiwanis Golf Classic

The Daybreakers Kiwanis Golf Classic will be on Saturday at Green Lea Golf Club.

A shotgun start will be at 1 p.m., and a dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. Players of all ages are invited to play.

Price per player is $50, which includes 18 holes of golf, BBQ buffet and prizes.

People can eat without golfing for $10.

Contact Green Lea Golf Course to reserve a golf cart.

Hole sponsorships are available for $100.

If a patron would like to register or has any questions they can contact Catherine Buboltz at 507-377-0835. Proceeds will benefit area youth.

2. Eddie Cochran Weekend

Eddie Cochran Weekend begins tonight with a trip back to the 1950s with The Holy Rocka Rollaz, which will will bring rock ‘n’ roll classics from performers such as Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash and others. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Fountain Lake Park as part of Thursdays on Fountain.

There is a cruise-in social at 6 p.m. Friday at Country Inn & Suites. Registration starts at 3 p.m.

Also on Friday, the DC Drifters will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. at at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. The DC Drifters have produced a special show solely as a tribute to Cochran, complete with songs as well as stories from Cochran’s life.

A car show will be on Saturday in downtown Albert Lea. Registration is from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Cost to enter is $10 per car, and the first 200 entries receive a dash plaque and goodie bag.

Concession stands and prizes are available.

There will be a car cruise starting at 4 p.m. at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. Line-up starts at 2:30 p.m.

The museum’s Eddie Cochran and Marion Ross exhibits will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. A free shuttle will be provided from downtown to the museum. The museum will also be selling root beer floats alongside many other food vendors.

The Whitesidewalls will perform at 7:30 p.m. at Fountain Lake Park.

Cloverleaf and Lakeview Lions club members will host a breakfast from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Fairlane Building.

A rock ’n’ roll church service will be at 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church.

3. Albert Lea Lakers baseball game

After being rained out Saturday, the Albert Lea Lakers will play their first home game Friday against Storm Lake White Caps.

The Albert Lea Lakers is compiled of college students who want to play baseball.

The game will begin at 7 p.m. at Hayek Field.

4. Vintage Style Show Brunch

The Vintage Style Show Brunch will begin at 9:30 a.m. and goes until 1 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church.

The event is a fundraiser for the Freeborn County Historical Museum for future projects.

Tickets are $18 and are available at the Freeborn County Historical Museum, Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau, Addie’s Floral and the Mary-Go-Round Shoppe in downtown Albert Lea.

5. ‘Horses’ artist reception

The Freeborn County Arts Initiative will host an artist reception Sunday for the group exhibition titled “Horses” in memory of 8-year-old Albert Lea artist Sophie Stultz, who died last summer.

The reception will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at 224 S. Broadway.

“Horses” features a variety of mediums by several artists. The memorial gallery opened May 16 and continues through June 30.
