Letter: County DFL picnic approaching

Published 7:58 pm Friday, June 8, 2018

It has been an exciting couple of months to be a Freeborn County DFLer! As a first-time delegate, I was excited to participate in the endorsing process. With so many great candidates it was a tough job, but we got it done.

At the 1st Congressional District Convention on April 21 in Le Sueur, we endorsed Dan Feehan for U.S. House. On May 6, Senate District 27 convened at the Hormel Nature Center in Austin. Terry Gjersvik received the endorsement for Minnesota House 27A, and incumbent Jeanne Poppe received endorsement for 27B.

The State DFL Convention was June 1 to 3 in Rochester. On June 1 we endorsed incumbent Steve Simon for Secretary of State. We also endorsed both of our incumbent U.S. senators, Tina Smith and Amy Klobuchar. On June 2, we endorsed Matt Pelikan for attorney general and Erin Murphy for governor. On Sunday, Julie Blaha received the endorsement for state auditor while we all waited in eager anticipation to hear who Erin Murphy chose to be her lieutenant governor: Erin Maye-Quade.

We are looking forward to the blue wave that’s coming this fall. To celebrate a successful endorsing season and give you the opportunity to meet some of the candidates, the Freeborn County DFL welcomes everyone to our summer picnic.

The picnic will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 19 at the Cottage at Edgewater Park (little cottage) in Albert Lea. Hot dogs and punch will be served. Bring a dish to share and a freewill donation. All endorsed candidates have been invited. Dan Feehan, Terry Gjersvik and Jeanne Poppe have confirmed they will speak at the event.
