1. Glenville Days

Another summer means another chance to celebrate Glenville over three days this weekend. Friday’s events start at 5 p.m. with a scholarship supper, followed by a 6 p.m. egg toss on Main Street and then a 6:30 p.m. showing of “The Lion King” at Glenville-Emmons High School. After the movie, there is hammer slagging, music on the street and the second half of a double-feature: “Jurassic Park” at 8:30 p.m, again at the high school. Highlights from Saturday’s festivities include a 10 a.m. parade beginning near Citizens State Bank, a 1 p.m. soap box derby in the park and a meat raffle at 8 p.m. For other activities on Saturday and Sunday, see the full schedule in the Tribune’s Summer Times.

 

 

2. Morin Lake Days

There’s more than one festival to check out this weekend in the area; Alden will also be filling the weekend with outdoor activities and events. Highlights include the fitness-themed kiddie parade at 6:30 p.m. Friday, a tractor pull at 7 p.m. that same evening, a fun run at 9 a.m. Saturday starting at the Hemmingsen Transfer parking lot, the Wes Hintz Kids Fishing Contest at Morin Lake at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, canoe races and activities on Morin Lake from 3 to 5 p.m., fireworks at dusk and two street dances Saturday evening, both starting at 8 p.m. There are more events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

 

 

3. Candlelight night walk

It’s Edgewater after dark Friday night with a candlelight night walk from 8 to 10 p.m. Bonus content: s’mores and a

bonfire after you poke around in the fading light.

 

 

4. Allzin for Alzheimer’s

Previously called Race to Remember, this year’s event — called Allzin for Alzheimer’s — will be longer and more action-packed than before, as proceeds from the event head toward research to combat Alzheimer’s. Most events are for horse and rider. On Friday, exhibitions run from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and pee wee events, open 4D and youth 4D start at 7 p.m. that night. On Saturday, there is a 5k fun run and walk beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event continues with more horse runs. Awards will be given out after a bouncy ball race. There are further exhibitions and horse runs Sunday. If you don’t have a horse, Saturday’s bouncy race, face painting and auction are for you. All events occur at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. 5. Play ball

The Albert Lea Lakers are looking for a windless day to snuff out the Storm Lake Whitecaps Friday night. The game starts at 6:35 p.m at Hayek Field.
