5 things to do this weekend

Published 10:09 pm Wednesday, October 31, 2018

1. Living history

On Sunday, prepare to meet a World War I soldier at Albert Lea Public Library. It has been 100 years since America’s entry into the Great War, and to commemorate it, Arn Kind of Historical Experiences Inc. will present a living history program canvassing both the war itself as well as Minnesota’s role in it. Kind will be at the library from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

2. Cancer symposium

For a seventh year, the Lloyd and Ardis Peterson Cancer Education Symposium will educate attendees on dealing with cancer. The event will include speakers on topics such as genetic counseling, financial anxieties associated with cancer diagnoses and maintaining quality of life. The event is free and includes a continental breakfast. The symposium runs from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club, and doors open at 8 a.m.

3. Church bazaar

If it fits in with home economics class, it fits in at Ascension Lutheran Church’s Time and Talents Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Participants will have crafts, cookbooks, cards, knives and treats for sale. Those who attend can also catch a morning coffee between 8 and 10:30 a.m. and lunch between 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

4. Water skiers informational meeting

It’s the time of year when skiing makes Albert Leans think of snow. But for the Bayside Ski Show Team, it’s still time to talk water skiing! Those interested in joining the team — no experience necessary — can head to an informational meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Edgewater Bay Pavilion. Those who attend will also get a chance to meet members from the current show team.

5. Rock ’n’ Roll Memories

KATE Radio personality Darrel Amundson is still behind the mic Saturday, but this time, it’s to share both his memories from more than 40 years spent on radio as well as a little bass. Amundson will team up with representatives from local bands to tell stories and share songs about his relationship with music and the musicians who made it. “Rock ’n’ Roll Memories” runs from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
