Our annual senior awards night will take place at 6:30 p.m. May 8. Through the generosity of the Albert Lea community and the Albert Lea Educational Foundation, our seniors receive many scholarships in order to continue their education after graduation.

Albert Lea High School is very pleased to host this year’s Big Nine Music Festival on Friday. This exciting event is the culmination of hours of hard work and preparation from each of the participating schools’ top-performing choir, band and orchestra. In addition, top musicians have been selected from each school to rehearse together to prepare special music for the select orchestra, select choir and select band.

This festival brings over 2,000 student musicians together to perform for each other and clinicians, and to showcase the musical talent of the students in the Big Nine Conference.

The daytime performances begin at 8:15 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m. with a break for lunch. The bands will perform in the ALHS auditorium, the orchestras in the ALHS gym and the choirs at First Lutheran Church sanctuary.

Daytime performances are free and the public is most welcome to come and listen. The ALHS performances include concert band at 8:15 a.m., symphony orchestra at 9:45 a.m. and concert choir at 1:15 p.m.

The grand finale concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the ALHS gymnasium.

Tickets for this event are $7 for adults and $5 for students and are available at the door.

On May 17, the Albert Lea High School class of 2019 will graduate. This is the 135th graduation at ALHS. Tickets are required to attend graduation. Our last day of school for students in eighth through 11th grade is May 21.

As you can see, May at ALHS is a very busy time for our students and we welcome you to come see them participate in extracurricular activities. Information about Albert Lea High School and spring events can be found at www.alschools.org/our-schools/albert-lea-high-school.
