The Albert Lea girls’ golf team hosted Mankato East at Green Lea Tuesday afternoon in a dual as the postseason nears for both teams.

The Tigers had solid performances all around and many season-bests, all leading to a sound defeat of the Cougars, 386-421.

Leading the way for the Tigers was senior Emma Loch and eighth grader Alyssa Jensen, who both shot a 94. Loch shot a 49 on the front nine and 45 on the back, while Jensen shot a 45 on the front and 49 on the back.

Senior Charley Fleek also kept her score under 100, carding a round of 99. Eighth grader Whitney Mullenbach rounded out the scoring for the Tigers with a 100. Also golfing but missing the scoring cut were sophomore Grace Nelson with a 120 and junior Makenzie Herr with a 105.

“That is a good round for us today,” said head coach Shaen Riebe. “We played more consistent golf today and our short game tightened up a little today. I really hope we are peaking at the right time and can have a great postseason. A lot of these girls really love golf and it shows with how much they play and they really enjoy learning.”

The Tigers will have one more invite before hosting the Big Nine Conference meet Tuesday. They will travel to Red Wing Thursday to take on 11 other teams at Mississippi National Golf Links.
