Albert Lea girls’ soccer team falls to Byron

The Albert Lea girls’ soccer team traveled to Byron Monday night in search of its first victory of the season.

Despite holding the Bears to one goal in each half, the Tigers were unable to come up with any goals of their own, falling 2-0.

Junior Cynthia Herrera led the Tigers in shots on goal for the second consecutive game with five. Junior Lucy Sherman totaled three shots on goal, while senior Turena Schultz and sophomore Lucy Stay each recorded one, bringing the Tigers to 10 shots total.

Senior goalkeeper Marissa Vogt saved 11 shots during the game. Both of the goals scored by the Bears were breakaway one-on-one opportunities.

“The Tigers never gave up and played with relentless effort right down to the final second,” said head coach David Schultz. “As a coach, I am super proud of everyone on how they play a game that was above the line.”

Both the JV and C-squad teams were also in action Monday night. The JV team lost 2-0 and the C-squad team fell 5-0.

The Tigers played Tuesday night in Fairmont, but as of press time results were unavailable. Look back to the Tribune as they become available.

Albert Lea’s next game is scheduled for Tuesday against Big Nine Conference foe Austin.
