Albert Lea girls’ swim and dive team competes in Austin

The Albert Lea girls’ swim and dive team traveled to Austin Saturday for the Packers Invite.

Despite finishing in sixth place, the Tigers got some solid performances from a handful of swimmers, the best being a third-place finish by senior Jaeda Koziolek.

Koziolek’s third-place finish came in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.60. She was just over three seconds behind the winner, Morgan Kram of Rochester Century. Also swimming in the event was junior Ishika Jain, who came in 16th with a time of 1:26.57.

Koziolek also came in fifth place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:22.87, separated by four seconds from the winner. Eighth grader Hatty Adams came in 17th in the event with a time of 2:57.40.

Sophomore Jenna Steffl has been bringing in many points this season as the team’s first diver in multiple seasons. Steffl came in fifth place of the one-meter diving competition with a final score of 257.50. Freshman Ava Troster also competed and came in 15th with a score of 193.60.

Sophomore Taya Jeffrey was the final Tiger to finish in the top 10 of an individual event. Jeffrey came in sixth place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.30. Fellow sophomore Brooke Hanson came in 16th with a time of 1:03.71 and seventh grader Hailey Doming came in 23rd with a time of 1:14.37.

In the three relay events — the 200-yard medley, the 200-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle — the Tigers came in seventh, sixth and ninth, respectively. Koziolek, Hanson, Jeffrey and eighth grader Emery Brouwers had a time of 2:07.28 in the 200-yard medley; Hanson, Jeffrey, Koziolek and sophomore Leah Rognes finished in 1:51.72 in the 200-yard freestyle; and Rognes, Troster, and sophomores Aliyah Studier and Taylor Palmer had a time of 4:26.91 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Jeffrey came in 12th (2:22.19) and senior Odelia Jensen came in 20th (2:41.72). Brouwers came in 11th in the 50-yard freestyle (27.97), while Hanson came in 14th (28.49) and Palmer came in 18th (29.05).

Adams and Jain finished the 100-yard butterfly in 12th and 14th place, respectively, with times of 1:21.52 and 1:23.31.

Rognes, seventh grader Julia Doppelhamer and Jensen came in 14th, 17th and 18th places, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle.

The Tigers will be back in the pool Saturday when they travel to Cambridge-Isanti High School for an mutli-team invite.
