Our students begin state and national testing after spring break (March 11 through 13). Our eighth graders take MCA tests in math, reading and science. Sophomores will take the MCA reading test and juniors will take the MCA math test. Juniors will also take the ACT, Accuplacer or ASVAB test based on student/parent decision and career plans the student is looking at. Our students involved in advanced placement courses will take their AP tests in early May. As testing is important in the lives of our students, many other things are taking place at ALHS.

Our winter sports are moving into the section playoffs. Please come and support the Tigers as they look to advance to the state tournaments. Check out the opportunities to come and support our student athletes at www.big9conference.org.  Starting Wednesday  students have the opportunity to register for baseball, boys’ and girls’ golf, softball, boys’ tennis and track.

We also have some major events taking place over the next few months. The Albert Lea High School prom will take place April 25. The Grand Promenade will be held in the auditorium and commons beginning at 3 p.m. Our annual Senior Awards Night will take place May 6 at 6:30 p.m. Through the generosity of the Albert Lea community and the Albert Lea Educational Foundation, our seniors receive many scholarships in order to continue their education after graduation.

Albert Lea High School will present the spring play, “Clueless,” on April 16, 17 and 18. May 1 is the Big Nine Music Festival at Rochester Century, where the ALHS band, choir and orchestra will compete. We will then have our spring band concert May 11, our orchestra concert May 15 and our choir concert May 18.

On May 22, the Albert Lea High School class of 2020 will graduate. This is the 136th graduation at ALHS. Tickets are required to attend graduation. Our last day of school for students in grades eighth through 11th grade is May 21.

As you can see, our spring semester at ALHS is a very busy time for our students and we welcome you to come to see them participate in extracurricular activities. Information about Albert Lea High School and spring events can be found at www.alschools.org/our-schools/albert-lea-high-school.
