Mike and Nona had six sons: Matthew, Nathan, Andrew, Joshua, Gabriel and Abraham. Mike and Nona also adopted two special needs children, Sean and Chelsea.

Mike was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In high school Mike played football, basketball and was a great left-handed pitcher in baseball. Additionally, he played the trumpet in band and had a beautiful baritone singing voice and even acted in the school plays. Michael fell in love with Nona while they were both lifeguards at Spring Lake in Lengby.

After high school graduation, Mike attended Bemidji State University and University of Minnesota-Crookston. Mike then entered the Army, served a year in Vietnam and then he was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina.

Mike and Nona returned to Minnesota, where Mike finished his bachelor’s degree in accounting and worked for Cooperative Auditing Service with his father, Al. Then Mike and Nona moved to Winona, where Mike taught at the technical college. At that time Nona finished her bachelor’s degree while raising six children. They then moved to Albert Lea, where their three oldest sons graduated from high school. Their next move brought them to Georgia, where they have lived for the past 29 years and Mike was a real estate agent and accountant.

Mike had a great sense of humor and was just fun to be around. He was an avid sports fan and player, and taught his sons his love for golf, softball and fishing. He especially loved the Vikings and Twins and watching the games with his sons. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.

Michael is survived by his loving children Matthew (Nicole) and their sons Ronan and Croi of Maplewood; Nathan (Kami) and Connor of Plymouth; Andrew (Shelly) and Joelly, Noah, Avery and Sadie of Ooltewah, Tennessee; Joshua (Wendy) of Jackson, Georgia; Gabriel (Kacie) and daughters Summer and Kylee of Conyers, Georgia; and Abraham (Latrelle) Zoey and Jackson; and Chelsea at home. Mike is also survived by brother, Steve (Mary, who is also Nona’s sister) of Elk River; and sister, Pam (Brenda), of New Hope.

Michael was preceded in death by his adopted son, Sean; parents Al and Marie and Nona’s parents Don and Shirley Hood; and brothers-in-law Jason and Jim Hood and Paul Fredrickson.

Arrangements are being made through Horace A. Ward Fairview Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Diabetes Research Institute in tribute to Michael Lindberg at www.diabetesresearch.org/give.

His family said: “May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

We remember with love.”
