To support the community and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea and Austin have joined other Mayo Clinic facilities in going “Mayo blue,” according to a press release.  Front entrances areas in both locations were lit in blue beginning at dusk Friday, in conjunction with the activation of the Minnesota statewide shelter in place order, according to the release.

The Plummer Building in Rochester, Mayo Clinic Hospital in Arizona and the sign at the main entrance to Mayo Clinic in Florida are among other locations joining together to show their sign of support and solidarity for staff working during the pandemic, the release stated.

“These lights offer a visible display of our appreciation to our dedicated staff, as well as support and hope to all,” said Melissa Barr, operations administrator at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea and Austin.

The lighting will continue for the foreseeable future to demonstrate ongoing support and a sign that Mayo’s highest priority continues to be centered on the safety and strength of staff, patients and community, the release stated. It is also a reminder to everyone to do what they can to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

“Sister Generose Gervais said it best, ‘We must not be content only to see things as they are. We must have the vision, faith and hope to see what things can and must be,’” said Dr. Mark Ciota, CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea and Austin.
