H. Elaine Paulsen, 1945-2020

Helen Elaine Paulsen was born Oct. 16, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri. Her parents were Richard and Margaret (Fettig) Wackher. She grew up and graduated from Palatine High School in Palatine, Illinois.

Education was the center of Elaine’s life. She graduated from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, and later pursued her masters degree in teaching and principalship at Mankato State University. She taught in Clear Lake and Hayward and taught and worked with special needs at Riverland Community College in Albert Lea. She retired after serving as elementary principal at the elementary school in Glenville.

Elaine was a giver; she loved her family, spending time with her grandchildren and was passionate about her work with hospice. She was a very avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan. She found much comfort in the companionship of her canine friend, Chloe.

On July 12, 1986, Elaine married Milton C. Paulsen Jr.

Elaine died peacefully at her home Wednesday, April 29, 2020.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Milt; her children Garrett “Andy” Klinker of Illinois and Gretchen L. Gade of Albert Lea; stepchildren Milton “Chris” (Shannon) Paulsen III of Albert Lea and Michael Scott of Jacksonville, Arkansas; grandchildren Drew Ann Klinker, Morgan Klinker, Nicholas Grace, Hunter Gade, Ashley (Matt) Wacholz, Wyatt and Zachery Paulsen; and great-grandchildren Ava and Mason Wacholz.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Les Wackher.

Elaine had a funny, outgoing, caring and inspiring soul; she will be greatly missed. Blessed be her memory!
