National Weather Service issues heat advisory

Much of south-central Minnesota will be under a heat advisory Wednesday as heat index values near 100 are expected.
The advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, including the cities of Waseca, Owatonna, Fairmont, Blue Earth and Albert Lea, according to the National Weather Service.
Heat indices are expected to reach 99 in Albert Lea, 100 in Fairmont, 101 in Mankato and Rochester and 104 in the Twin Cities. Actual temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid-90s.
The area is also under a marginal risk for severe weather.
The Weather Service said hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.
People are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles.
The weather agency also advised people to take extra precautions if working or spending time outside. When possible, they should reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening and wear lightweight or loose-fitting clothing when possible.
