“Self Reliance”
Streaming on Hulu
Review by Chelsey Bellrichard
If you are looking for a comedy, this would be a good one to watch. Jake Johnson (Nick from “New Girl”) plays the lead character, Tommy. Tommy gets an invite to win $1 million by playing a game where he must stay alive for 30 days, which requires him to outsmart the people who are out there to kill him. The one thing he can do to help him stay alive? Never be alone, not even for a second. As long as he has someone by him he will be safe. This movie was a good laugh, and I definitely recommend it for a good movie night in.

Review by Kim Herfindahl
“The Door” is such an odd movie that you can’t help but be intrigued to find out the mystery of who Emerence is. When a new couple moves into the neighborhood, they seek out Emerence’s housekeeping services. Neighbors fill them in on some of Emerence’s odd behavior, especially the fact that she has never allowed anyone in her house. Over time and despite their contentious relationship, Emerence comes to trust her employer enough to share her tumultuous life story.

Review by Deanna Rochleau
When my brother and I were young, our mom showed us this old western, starring Jane Fonda, that she loved. “Cat Ballou” was filmed in 1965, before our time, but we thought it was the funniest thing we had ever seen.
It’s a weird marriage of western/comedy/musical. We watched this movie so many times. We laughed, we sang along, we knew the dialogue by heart. Watching Lee Marvin sing “Happy Birthday” to a dead guy shouldn’t be funny, but it was.
I recently showed it to my 13-year-old. He wasn’t quite as enthusiastic as my brother and I were, but he thoroughly enjoyed the movie. He did not enjoy me singing along though. Oh well, maybe I’ll get my brother to watch it with me again.
“The Sandman”
Streaming on Netflix
Review by Kim Ehrich
“The Sandman” is a blend of dark fantasy, mystery and the supernatural. Set in a realm where dreams hold tremendous power, the story follows Dream, one of the Endless, who becomes entangled in a series of intriguing and crazy events that revolve around rebuilding his realm. As Dream navigates through different dimensions and encounters, the show unfolds a story where reality and fantasy collide.
Personally, I found “The Sandman” to be a captivating journey that kept me on the edge of my seat. The intricate plot twists made for a binge-worthy experience. Whether you’re a fan of the graphic novels or a newcomer to the fantasy genre, this Netflix show is sure to leave a lasting impression.
“Arkansas”

Review by Chelsey Bellrichard
This movie is about some low-level drug runners and the shenanigans they get into while trying to make their way up the ladder. Kyle (Liam Hemsworth) and Swin have never met but find themselves in the thick of it when they travel to Arkansas to find the kingpin who rules their lives.
Vince Vaughn plays “Frog,” the kingpin of the movie, and one of the reasons I decided to watch this movie. Usually when Vince is in a movie, I know it’s going to be somewhat funny. This movie was definitely somewhat funny, but overall it was just an odd movie. I did make myself finish the movie, and some parts of it were better than others. Maybe I’m being harsh, but this was one movie I will not be watching again.
