Rebels place 7th at section meet

The United South Central girls’ and boys’ cross country teams finished their regular season Thursday at the Section 2A meet, held at Riverside Golf Course near Blue Earth.

Both the girls’ and boys’ teams finished seventh in their competitions.

Hannah Goemann will be making her second trip to the state Meet by virtue of her 10th place finish in the individual competition.

“Our Section was extremely strong this year,” USC head coach Kent Viesselman said. “Both Fairmont and Waseca will do well at the state meet next week.”

Dylan Baumann was the top finisher for the Rebels boys’ team, finishing in 11th place, and narrowly missing a trip to state.

“Dylan has really come into his own the last two to three weeks,” Viesselman said. “Our boys team ran well. Based on results during the season, it looked like we would be about 10th as a team.”

Goemann and Baumann both earned All-Section honors by placing in the top 15 in Thursday’s meet.

Also, both the girls and boys teams earned the Gold Academic Achievement Award for having team GPAs better than 3.75.
