Muslim doctor talks about Islam

A recently article by Muslim Dr. Tawfik Hamid talks about how change is needed in Muslims. Here are some of his own words.

“Our current Islamic teaching creates violence and hatred toward non-Muslims. We Muslims are the ones who need to change.”

“We have accepted polygamy, the beating of women and killing those who leave Islam. We ask others to respect our religion while we curse non-Muslims (in Arabic) in our Friday prayers.”

“I am sad that many, if not most, of us rejoiced after 9/11 and other terror attacks. Muslims denounce these attacks to look good in front of the media, but we condone the terrorists and sympathize with their cause.”

Another Muslim, Dr. Zhudi Jasser, has been tirelessly warning the west of Islamic law (sharia). The centerpiece of Islamic law as it pertains to non-Muslims is this: “The basis of the Islamic attitude towards unbelievers is the law of war; they must be either converted or subjugated or killed.” (Introduction to Islamic Law p. 130). Our current administration, however, seems unconcerned with sharia. President Obama’s appointees (Harold Koh, Arif Alikhan, Elena Kagan, others) have shown an interest in letting sharia expand in the U.S. (it has already taken root here). Contact Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken and Rep. Tim Walz if you are concerned on this matter.

Drs. Hamid and Jasser are proof there are moderate, peaceful Muslims and they are brave men to make take their positions. I hope people will listen to them.

I don’t want to put words in Dr. Hamid’s mouth. I suggest you read his opinion at www.levitt.com (Feb newsletter issue).
