Kathryn L. Syverson, 98, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Kathryn L. Syverson, of Albert Lea, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at First Lutheran Church Chapel in Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate.

Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Monday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before the service at the church.

Kathryn died Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at St. John’s Lutheran Home. She was 98.

She was born on Nov. 7, 1912, in Scarville, Iowa, the daughter of Sever and Johanna (Moe) Monson.

The Monson family moved to Emmons, and Kathryn graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1931. Kathryn married Martelle “Marty” Syverson on Sept. 21, 1934, in Hayward.

They moved to Minneapolis in 1942, and she worked at a grocery store (now Lunds) for several years.

In 1960, they moved to Omaha, Neb., to Lake Mills, Iowa, in 1963, and returned to Albert Lea in 1965. Marty died in 1975, and Kathryn moved to Mesa, Ariz. in 1980. She returned to Albert Lea in 2004 and resided at Oak Park Place.

Kathryn enjoyed traveling and she and Marty had opportunity to travel around the world. She enjoyed lawn bowling and playing the piano. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved spending time and going on driving trips with them.

Kathryn is survived by two sons: Dave (Elaine) Syverson and Jon (Patricia) Syverson of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Bob (Tiffany) Syverson of Albert Lea, Barbara (Steven) Pulley of Albert Lea, Patricia (Paul) Anderson of Eden Prairie, Mary (Jay) Klovstad of Carver, Ted Lambert of Haines, Alaska,

Holly (John) Witte of Las Vegas; Wendy (David) Walker of Albert Lea, Jay (Jackie) Syverson of Burnsville; Eric (Tessa) Syverson of Burnsville; great-grandchildren: Adam, Alex and Marty Syverson, Megan, Jack, and Joey Pulley, Samuel Klovstad, Zack and Grace Lambert, Ian Witte, Whitney and Jonah Walker, Matthew and Luke Syverson and Kayla Anderson; brother-in-law Dr. Arthur (Lee) Syverson of Fergus Falls, sister-in-law Inga Marie Monson of Alexandria, Va., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marty, her daughter Helen Lambert, her twin brother Kenneth Monson and his wife Mildred, brother Reuben Monson and sister Esther Thompson and her husband John.

In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to First Lutheran Church, Peace and Power.
