1989 — Mothers Against Drunk Driving of Freeborn County started a campaign to distribute 9,000 red ribbons as part of its campaign for responsible nonalcoholic driving.

1979 — Demolition of the 300-foot Interstate Power Co. smokestack next to the railroad tracks between Newton and Broadway avenues was underway. This job was being done by a Chicago firm.

1959 — The Alden High School cheerleaders received their new uniforms: white sweaters with gold and black A emblems and white pleated skirts.
