Column: Thanks for Listening

Please do not forget this Sunday is Mother’s Day, and it is only a card or call that will make this day so special to someone who raised you, fed you and kept a roof over your head for all those years that you thought you knew it all! Take the time to remember Mom.

Here is to a couple of top-notch moms in my life:

My mom, Marilyn Schmeltzer, turned 75 years young this year and is astonishing. She raised six kids and still kept her sanity. Wow! Thanks for not killing me! I love you, Mom!

Bonnie, my wife, you are the best mom in the world and our children could not be any more blessed. The late nights, the talks, the doctor’s appointments and the constant running to and from sporting events to make sure the kids were on time were not easy tasks. Again: Wow!

Thanks for everything you do for them. You rock!

A couple of my favorite mom quotes or sayings:

“A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.” — Tenneva Jordan

“When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.” — Sophia Loren

“In or out!” — Every mother ever

“I hope you have children who are just like you!” — My mom.

“Being a mom is tough. If it was easy, God would have let guys do it too!” — My mom and many others

Tribune Publisher Scott Schmeltzer’s column appears every Thursday.
