William (Bill) Richards, Edina

William (Bill) C. Richards, MD, MBA, of Edina, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Methodist Hospital, St Louis Park, from complications of acute myeloid leukemia.

William Craige Richards was born Jan. 4, 1962, in Glendale, Calif., to James Craige and Linda L (Lang) Richards. He was a graduate of Pacific Union College, Loma Linda University Medical School and the University of St. Thomas. He married Shannon M. Neale, MD, of Albert Lea on Oct. 9, 1994, in Carmel Valley, Calif. They were family practice physicians in Santa Cruz, Calif., for eight years before joining Park Nicollet Clinic and moving to Edina in 2002. He was a hospitalist and president of the medical staff at Methodist Hospital. He served as a director on the Park Nicollet Health Services Community Board. Bill enjoyed all sports, but golf was his passion.

Dr. Richards is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Shannon M. Neale, MD, of Edina, and their precious children: Rachel Linda, Natalie Caroline and Noah Craige Richards. Also surviving are sisters Katherine (James) Lance of Pacific Palisades, Calif., and Susan Parr of Bend, Ore.; father-in-law and mother-in-law Herbert and Caroline Neale of Albert Lea; sister-in-law Peggy S. Neale (Dr. Ryne DeVries) of Minneapolis; brother-in-law David T. Neale of Prior Lake; nieces: Kristen Parr and Anna Lisa Lance; nephews: Elliott, William and Brian Lance, Scott, Josh and Doug Parr, Mason Neale, Reece and Riley DeVries and Ohiyesa Firesteel; a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Herbert and Martha Lang and doctors Jesse Craige and Ernestine Richards; his mother Linda L. Gassoumis and father James C. Richards, both in 2011.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Normandale Lutheran Church, Edina. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Edina Country Club.
